I MADE THIS ORIGINAL POEM on Dec 19, 2007

Twas the night before Christmas: Psychologist's Parody
Twas the night before Christmas and all through the clinic,

no appointments for the psychologist, not even a cynic...

Security guards were watching their tellies,
eating their pizza and scratching their bellies...

The patients were restrained and snug in their beds,
while visions of delusions were kiboshed by meds...

The doctor pulled an arm through his coat sleeve,
had his gloves on the door handle, was ready to leave...

When down in cell B5160-8,
A voice called, "Please! Let me out! I'll be late!"

Calmly the doctor walked downstairs to see
if he could comfort the man who sent out this plea...

"Good evening, Doc," said the man, with a nod,
"Notice anything at all that strikes you as odd?"

The doctor's thought was not betrayed on his face,
That's something I commonly ask myself in this place...

The good doctor's eyes widened with wonder,
He thought, "Is what I am seeing a cognitive blunder!?"

For standing on the other side of the door,
Stood a white-bearded fellow with a bag on the floor.

This cheerful man was dressed in red top-to-bottom,
except for black boots and white trim of cotton.

Demanded the doctor: "Is this some kind of joke?
"Or has someone been putting the rum in my coke?"

Laughing with a mischievous glint in his eyes,
the alleged Archetype began to analyze...

"You've been a pretty good boy all your life,
and nowadays help folks through anxiety and strife..."

"You're typically clear-headed, centred and calm:
even when you are worried no one catches on..."

"So now, tell me why you think this is delusion,
and why you've come down with decision aversion?"

"Don't you remember? You were a child - I came to see ya!
Or perhaps you suffer from disassociative amnesia?"

The psychologist stood there, paralyzed a moment;
perplexed, confused, withholding formal assessment...

He took a closer look at this gentleman's face;
was suddenly awed by the man's composure and grace.

He leaned in closer still because there was something quite strange
that he wanted to confirm but couldn't tell from this range.

Intuition told the doctor, to make this correct,
he'd need to be closer, to observe more direct...

As the doctor stepped in, things seemed to brighten, expand,
and the Santa Claus Icon extended a hand.

"Congratulations, son!" St. Nick bellowed in delight,
"Now you see who I am, and I'm not such a fright!"

Feeling braver, the doctor accepted the handshake
"Now I'm certain who you are - there is no mistake!"

"This feels like centration, I feel so awake...
It feels like my first birthday, with presents and cake!"

For standing before the doctor was a mirror of himself,
wearing not his business suit, but a big grin and red felt!

With a start the doctor woke up in his workplace,
at his desk, with his books, in his own comfy space.

"Of course!" the doctor stated, "We've all got Christmas Spirit.
We just have to wake up and spread it, not fear it!"
----------------

Obviously when I don't get called in to work I have a lot of time on my hands! LOL So yeah: B5160-8 (which I said was a cell # in this poem: is actually the number on the shirt of Hannibal "The Cannibal" Lector in "Silence of the Lambs.")

And a lot of the terms I got from reading Jung, and some other books... for instance: "centration is a thought pattern common during the beginning of the preoperational stage of cognitive development; characterized by the child's inability to take more than one perceptual factor into account at the same time."

HOLLY'S "O'PiWaCaMaPa Punch"(O = Orange; Pi = Pineapple; Wa = Watermelon; Ca = Cantaloupe; Ma = Mango; Pa = Papaya): So I finished the fruit mix... We're freezing it and then putting it in the fridge Fri to start softening it a bit.
I basically blended 1 cantaloupe, 2 mango, 1 papaya, 1 small watermelon, 1 sweet pineapple, and a bag of oranges (roughly 2 litres when blended) with 2 litres of Sprite/7Up.
8) So in total it's about 4 Litres of tropical blended real fruit with 7Up.

IDEAS for the PARTY APRIL 14: Please contribute!

YOU COMING TO THE PARTY??? RSVP NO LATER APRIL 11th!!
OKAY: MAJORITY RULES -- NO GAMES WHATSOEVER...
LOL
========================================
1 Point of View:
"Hey just me... I do not think it would be very easy to try to organize any kind of game or anything like that...too loud, too crowded, too tough. People are likely more into visiting or having an excuse to have a few drinks. It's tricky to try to plan anything else at a public place. It would be different if the party was at a house or something but it's a bit more difficult at a bar. As for a game of poker-- hard to say if the bar would allow that (could be considered gambling). Just my thought."
2nd Point of View:
"Personally, the reason i'm coming that night is to just chat and catch up with people. I've never been a huge fan of board games (or those that don't involve a certain level of gambling.. lol). So I probably wouldn't be as inclined to stay as late if there was anything like that going on, but that's just me."

3rd POV:
"well could bring some games if you want. you wouldn't happen to know if anyone has a portable karaokee machine or if could rent one though? that might be another way to go. cranium, trivial pursuit, even charades would be good. Things that get people to participate in something are usually good. Maybe divide up people into teams for that. the champ from each team could go on to play against the other winners from the other teams. can have a variety of games to choose from just so people dont get stuck with one they dont like. or if someone gets a karaoke machine that would work too. Hope this helps you out on ideas for entertaining :)"
4rth POV:
"holly my thought is if theres music its all good because most ppl will be coming to visit and having a bit of background noise is good. however games i'm not too sure having this big of a crowd is going to be interested in playing games. some maybe but most not likely... just seeing friends they used to work with and finding out how they are is what i'm going to be coming for.. but if you wanna bring a few games go hard.. ;)"
5th POV:
My personal opinion is that if you are afraid that there is going to be down time and you want to be able to mix it up a bit in case of boredom, sure! Bring some cards and game ideas :-D. It's better to be over prepared in my opinion. Game wise, I agree that board games etc should be out unless you just bring trivia i.e. just the trivia cards out of the trivial pursuit game. But definitely playing cards if you want to be prepared :-) Have I rsvp'd at all? I'm pretty sure I will show for a bit.
6th POV:
Take the cards. Don't plan to use them. If you need to liven up the party, then bring them out. People will come and the night will pick up momentum, before you know it the party will be in full swing.

My opinion - CLICK HERE>>> CARD GAME IDEAS...
Easy to clean up, doesn't take a lot of space up, no pieces to lose, legal, doesn't require a lot of thought, encourages socializing, alcohol is optional, the game is optional.

I am interested in your responses, so if you have a strong feeling about something, maybe we can still work things out!

UPDATE 04/02/07: APRIL 14th, 2007 >> THE MENU & THE VENUE (SEE BELOW)

Well... This was going to me my long goodbye to all my wonderful co-workers... But now it's more like a HELLO-GOODBYE to everyone and not just me! Lawrence, Carla, Ian and several other current and former Rez/QA/Reps are going to be there. So why not come out!?
>>>>>I got an EXTENSION for the RSVP DATE!! Please tell me by APRIL 11th if you are coming!<<<<<<<<
You either reply to the comments link at the end of this Blog, email me or call me.
THE TIME: 7 PM - MIDNIGHT
THE VENUE: >>> MAP <<<
I am announcing that I am choosing the Cocktail Lounge: it's gorgeous, easy to find and easy to navigate (the majority has regular size booths and tables/chairs) and it seats 50, and if necessary Karen, our coordinator, has a bit more room she can open in the back section for roughly 16 more people. If you prefer to sit next to the bar in that room, then that area is higher and has barstools. Click >>> here <<< & look on the bottom right of the webpage you go to and you will see a bit of what The Moon cocktail lounge looks like.

PLEASE BE ADVISED: Bring your ID. They emphasized to me, in no uncertain terms, that they reserve the right to turn away potential customers who do not provide ID. You need to be at least legal drinking age (19 yrs old), but if you look younger, Karen says to bring your ID anyway! If you don't have ID and you're 19, 29, 39 they can still ask you to leave as they will otherwise possibly be fined $10,000!!

THE MENU:
Just in case you can't see the writing that Karen placed on the first page, I just wanted to make sure you knew that she says she can bring down highballs and beer to $3.50 & wine to $4.00, however cocktails or specialty drinks will be charged the normal rate.

Really, these food prices seem very reasonable! For instance, Karen has seen 4 people easily sated by their popular Appetizer Basket, which at $14.95 split between 4 people is roughly $3.75! Click on the pages to get a larger view of them...
